Description
ALLIGARE GLYPHOSATE Herbicide
*recommended for dry plants above the water or out of the water. Ineffective against plants under water.
A non-selective, post-emergent herbicide used to control a wide range of weeds and woody plants on land and in aquatic settings. A high-concentration (53.8% glyphosate) systemic, post-emergent, non-selective herbicide labeled for both aquatic and terrestrial use. It controls over 190 types of weeds, brush, and woody plants in areas where water meets land, such as shorelines, canals, and industrial sites.
Product Information
- How it Works: It is absorbed through foliage and moves into the root system, causing yellowing and wilting, usually within 2-4 days for annuals and 7+ days for perennials
- Active Ingredient: Contains 53.8% glyphosate, in the form of its isopropylamine salt, which is equivalent to 5.4 pounds of active ingredient per gallon.
- Use Areas: Best Use Areas: Aquatic (lakes, ponds, rivers, wetlands), industrial, forestry, roadsides, and utility rights-of-way.
- Application: It is a water-soluble liquid that must be mixed with water and a nonionic surfactant and applied as a foliar spray. It has no soil residual activity. Requires a non-ionic surfactant for best results, especially on tough weeds.
- Effectiveness: Absorbed through the leaves and stems, it moves systemically into the root system to kill the entire plant. Visible effects typically occur within 2 to 4 days on annual weeds and longer for perennial or woody species.
- Restrictions: Do not apply to foliage, green stems, or exposed roots of desirable plants as it will kill them. Rainfall within 6 hours of application can reduce effectiveness.
Aquatic Plants Controlled
Glyphosate is rated as “excellent” or “good” for a variety of stubborn aquatic species:
- Emergent Plants: Cattails, Phragmites (common reed), Purple Loosestrife, Alligator Weed, Reed Canarygrass, and Willows.
- Floating Plants: Water Hyacinth, Water Lettuce, and Water Lilies (Lotus, Spatterdock).
- Grasses: Torpedograss (though it may require repeated applications or burning for full control).
- *See product label for complete list of weeds / species.
How much to use:
- Application Rates: Generally 1 to 2 quarts per acre, or 2-3 ounces per gallon of water, depending on target vegetation.
- Surfactant Recommendation: Use a non-ionic surfactant for best results, at a rate of 1/2 pint to 2 quarts per 100 gallons of spray solution for aquatic applications. Four-gallon backpack sprayer with 4-8 oz of surfactant (Cide Kick II).
